METH#100 Goldie - Freedom (Feat. Natalie Duncan)

Since its 1994 conception, Goldie's Metalheadz label has been responsible for legendary jungle rinse outs in The Blue Note, playing host to D&B's finest album debutants such as Commix, releasing archetypal underground killers such as Doc Scott's Unnoficial Ghost, Adam F's MetropolisAsylum's Da Base II Dark, and a multitude of current D&B releases including a techno and house infused Re:call To Mind LP featuring remix pressure from Burial, Pedestrian and Pangaea.

Fast forward 18 years and Goldie is set to release the one hundredth release on Metalheadz after the success of the latest collaboration between Need For Mirrors & DRS on his new MethXX label. Reminiscent of his timeless classic (excuse the pun) Inner City Life, FREEDOM is a progressive drum & bass release, giving substandard producers in the scene a production master-class with resonating breaks rolling in after a cinematic build up of euphoric guitar synths, the spine chilling Natalie Duncan on vocal duties dipping in and out of the mix resulting in the creation of a future classic. Enjoy.

Skeptical - Fabriclive X Commercial Suicide Mix

With the first Skeptical related post on OneSeventy it may not be necessary to mention Marka but I will anyway

Its a very rare occurrence that a half time stomper be played by every respected drum & bass DJ in the community let alone by DJs of different tempos and genre. With the instrumental by Skeptical & Dub Phizix also having the privilege of being blessed by Damian Marley, the technical mastery of Skeptical's production has not gone unnoticed.

If you arent lucky enough to catch one of his sets in the near future, this mix (for Commercial Sucide's Room 3 Fabriclive Takeover) is testament to his selection right now; with a collection of coveted drum & bass dubplates such as his own "Blue Eyes VIP" and the militant "Fluctuate" with MC Fokus this mix will not leave your iPods for a long time.

Sabre, Stray & Halogenix - Oblique

"Many years from now when we look back, this tune will be a 'waypoint' of the times" - Goldie

Following from their first release on Noisia's Invisble imprint, Sabre, Stray & Halogenix take a soulful approach to their first release on Critical Music as a trio (CRIT061). Oblique shows once again the versatility and depth of emotion capable with music at this speed. The minimalistic nature of Oblique is what champions it. From the poignant vocals of Frank Carter IIII, to the well placed elements of "techier" drum & bass releases sitting perfectly above a sound-scape of tastefully time-stretched piano riffs and percussion hits, this release is proof that drum & bass can and is evolving from the heavy elongated bassline stereotype of the past and present.
